Wild About Flowers
Wild About Flowers is the creation of Megan Parker, Master Florist. Megan has been working in the industry for over 30 years and is genuinely excited about sharing her passion for flowers with you.
Wild About Flowers evolved from the high demand of clients contacting Megan, wishing to learn more about Flowers. “Many of my clients want to understand more about flowers, how they grow, how and when to pick them from the garden, how to display flowers to show them off to their full potential. Most clients do not wish to own a flower shop or even work in one, they just crave knowledge”.
Megan is one of 13 qualified Master Florists in New Zealand. This qualification is endorsed by New Zealand Professional Florists Incorporated and Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticultural Incorporated. New Zealand Professional Florist was founded during 1930 and is the oldest established Floristry training facility in New Zealand.
About Megan
My name is Megan Parker NZPF Dip.MF, my background in floristry started when I was 14. After my first day of working in a flower shop after school, I went home so excited, I told my Mum I wanted to be a florist. My passion and love for flowers have never stopped.
I left college at 17 to work full time and at the age of 19 joined Rosemary Flower Shoppe, Wellington, where I continued to train under the guidance of Denzil Philp. By the time I was 24 my husband and I, along with another couple opened a large flower and gift sending business in the Wellington CBD. We set up our store to cater for the corporate sector, their staff, functions and large events. Our company was called “Expressions” we owned this for 10 wonderful years.
I have been an active member of New Zealand Professional Florists Inc (NZPF) for the past 30 years. The roles I have occupied over this period are: Diploma Representative, Vice President and President and National Assessment Co-ordinator. My desire to teach floristry to the highest standard is important to me. Like many things, there is a right and wrong way. If you learn the right way from the beginning you will not go wrong in the future, plus it gives you a great foundation for you to create your own style.
From 2002 – 2013, I ran the full time level 2 Floristry course at Whitireia New Zealand. Due to funding constraints it was closed in December 2013. I had always enjoyed teaching my own staff and other students, so teaching at Whitireia was naturally the perfect choice for me. I taught over 250 students at the polytechnic, I feel learning should be fun and with a little bit of hard work and dedication, great results are achievable.
If you are looking for a change in career, or just some fun classes, send me an email and I may be able to help.
There is something truly special about flowers; as designers we have the privilege and ability to bring a lot of joy into people’s lives. We never stop learning or sharing, friendships are forged and flowers are shared. Welcome to the World of Flowers.
